I was so excited when I found this FBMP Free Sideboard Cabinet. This is a used piece of furniture yet it's somewhat new to us, was brought home on a impromptu weekend thanks to FBMP which you all know its where most of our furniture for this house has come from. I had been looking for a furniture piece for this corner for a while.
One weekend morning I just so happened to be browsing the FREE items on FBMP while on the road on the way back from the post office. I always check the free listings before anything else and found this. Rarely do I find the best things in the free listings but I got lucky this time and jumped on it. When I saw it pop up the size and features were great and first thought was this corner.
The gentleman that had listed it mentioned that his boys had used it for keeping their video game console and god knows what else on and in it. It certainly looked that way. When we got there I was just happy that the glass was in tact and unscratched or chipped. Besides a couple of knobs missing and a pretty visible scratches on the top drawer and a little warp at the bottom of it everything else was in good, solid. So that's a win in my book especially if when it's free.
Of course depending on the damage, I figured, if it needed it, I'd paint it or strip it but I didn't want to do either when I saw it. I love the wood color. Once we brought it home I wasted no time in giving it a good wipe down, cleaned the glass and a good wood polish.
Most of the scuffs came off and the scratchers that did remain are hardly visible if you don't look too closely and that doesn't bother me at the moment. I will eventually go back with a wood filler probably or this polish to see if it helps. I don't mind when vintage or thrifted pieces have visible wear or tear if it actually gives it character and in this case I feel that it does and tells the story of where it came from. I'll live with it as is for now.
Would love to know your thoughts? Would you have left it as is, painted or stripped this piece?
