This DIY IKEA Hack | LÄTT Children's Table & Chairs was something I've had on my radar for a while. If you've been around for a while then you know that Saylor, our grandson has his own room at our house for when he comes over, hangs out, sleeps over or we simply babysit. I love having a space just for him or any other future grand babies. He literally runs into this room, whenever he comes over.
I feel like I'm almost reliving my kids childhood through him again. Things that I missed out on doing or decorating and DIY'ing are all happening with and for my grandson.
This LÄTT Children's Table & Chairs set from Ikea was something I had been on the search for on FBMP because I had seen them there before and truly didn't want to buy it new when of course, I knew I'd be giving it a makeover.
Wasn't looking of course and there it was for $20. Score.
It had some marks and scuffs but soon I would change that.
Because Saylor's room is somewhat bold with the wallpaper I installed last year I thought I would mimic that same look on this table and chair set. Actually I originally saw this idea pop up on PrettyInThePines Instagram page and hers turned out so cute. I realized how easy this would be to work o and wanted to eventually give it a try.
And the time finally came.
I started by giving it a good wipe down. Apparently the family that was selling it was eager to get rid of it because they didn't clean it but for $20 I honestly didn't care.
I'll make sure to list all the supplies at the end of the post.
Once again IYKYK I used one of my favorite chalk paints, the one I used is Hallow Hill by Country Chic Paint. I gave it two coats of paint because of how light the wood was. Once that dried after a couple of hours I sealed it with furniture wax. I wasn't too worried about the top of the table getting paint on it because I knew I would be covering it up.
For the top I actually used a roll of Peel and Stick Wood Grain Contact Paper ordered on Amazon. Some air bubbles did pop up as I rolled it on, but all you need to take them out is a needle to pop them and smooth them out.
Now onto the even more fun part. The seat cushions. Notice that I also didn't care about getting paint on the seats? Tha'ts because I knew I'd be making seat cushions for them. For these I actually went to Hobby Lobby to get the two items I needed.
I bought the seat cushion padding and I did have to trim it down to the size of the chair seats. I then wrapped them with the fabric I bought with hot glue, and then hot glued them onto the seat of the chairs.
They're not perfect by all means but Saylor loves his table and chairs and uses it constantly.
