5 Ways To Be Well This Winter

Updated: Nov 12

Winter is a time of hibernation and reflection, but it can also be a season of renewal for many of us. New Year’s resolutions can be overwhelming but also allow us to take stock and reprioritize for the year ahead.

So, instead of a ‘new year, new you,' let's create better opportunities this season to focus on your overall health.

Here are our top 5 ways to be well this winter.

Focus on How You Feel

There’s no shame in saying it… the wintertime can be SAD! Some can fall victim to Seasonal Affective Disorder during the winter months, feeling more melancholy than usual. Take care of your mental wellness in advance, whether it’s finding mental health resources, ramping up your social interactions, or buying a sunlight lamp. Think about what you need and if you have access to the help.

Indulge in Your Hobbies

This is the perfect time to try that complicated recipe or read that giant novel on your shelf that’s been collecting dust. Whether it’s baking, knitting, reading, writing, painting, or anything in between, the colder months are perfect for your favorite indoor hobbies. If you’re lacking your usual summer social connections, make dates for a book club, BFF painting days, or even cooking nights with your family!

Ramp Up the Workouts

Throughout the summer we all tend to spend more time doing outdoor activities like swimming and hiking. The physical and mental health benefits of moving your body cannot be understated. So, keep things moving this winter and maybe add an extra walk to your weekly workout routine, or maybe just add some stretching to keep yourself loose.

Volunteer Your Time

The commercials asking for help or donations may have slowed down until next holiday season, but there are always ways to serve your community. Look up local volunteer opportunities to find projects or services that need extra hands this winter. Bonus: You might create some great connections in your community.

Take an Online Class

If you’ve always been interested in a certain subject, try to find an online class about it. There’s so much winter downtime time to learn new things (i.e., how do I invest properly?) while we wait for the summer sun.
