2025 Home Project Wish List

Writer: SandraJoanSandraJoan

I've been planning our 2025 home projects since December. In my mind at least. I meant to share last month but a lot has taken priority.

I always overestimate my energy and underestimate the time and money it will take to complete a project. I don’t know if I’ll ever learn my lesson in this area because I am an optimist. I did leave some of the more expensive projects off the list, like new windows and outdoor renovations like painting the exterior because it’s doubtful those will be a financial priority this year, but we’ll see.

Here are my hopes for 2025…

Paint the trim and door along the back of the house including our wooden fence surround our back yard. We planned on doing this last year when the weather was warm and we just never got around to it. These are not major projects because it's just cosmetic work. Now that most of the trees that were damaging the exterior of the house are cut and gone, t’s time to knock these two items off of the list.

Build a custom A/C surround.  Plans have yet to be drawn or planned out for this project but hope to make it happen nonetheless. We have an actual cover that goes over it for the winter but we’d like to hide or disguise it a bit more. But we're trying to keep it simple and classic, definitely different from the one my husband built for our last home.

We did a lot of work on the landscaping last spring and summer and I am going to continue that this year.  We cut down a lot of shrubs and overgrown trees surrounding the house. Created simple walking paths we needed to get to and around the back of the house. Planted a lot of herbs and perenials but definitely adding more this year to the front of the house. We're hoping to getting around to painting the shed as well, we'd like to replace it eventually but it's in good shape for now and until we can make the investment this one could use some sprucing up.

Adding trim and wallpaper to the primary bedroom.  Our bedroom was the first one we worked on when we moved in besides our grandson's room.  We stripped the ugly slim trim, and painted the walls white to make them feel fresh and give the room a neutral feel, like a blank canvas until we figured out what direction we wanted to go in.  I knew I would likely repaint it one day, but I didn’t know what I wanted, so white seemed like the best choice. I’m now ready to add some architectural interest went back and forth between trim and wallpaper. Due to the way the walls are shaped in our room, wallpaper seems more ideal and would give the room more warmth and interest.

Closets. So four out of eight closets in our home are getting cosmetic makeovers. I'm most excited about our hallway closet being turned into a mudroom and our master closet getting a fresh coat of paint and not just the walls the shelves and cabinetry too. We also have a closet under our stairway that we don't use for anything at the moment and will now be used to hold our home cleaning appliances, therefore I am working on a plan for it so we'll see what I can come up with.

Lighting, literally almost every ceiling light (except our dining room and son's room) has yet to be replaced and bathroom's all need new wall sconce lighting. Possibly even builtin lighting above each of the showers/tubs but budget will have to tell if it's doable. I can only hope and dream at the moment.

Adding picture molding/trim to our main upstairs living space. I'm excited to start adding more detail to our blank walls and speaking of our upstairs living space, curtains are a must. So adding curtain rods and pretty curtains might finally be happening in this room as well. I recently changed out our rug and couch again. All second hand from FBMP but I'll have to share that soon.

There’s more, naturally, but I know I might not even get all of these things done while I’m working five days a week, taking an online class, working on health and balance, and everything else in between called life! As I said, though, I’m an optimist…
