I’m always dismayed as to how quickly time flies by soon as September comes around to say I wasn't ready for September to end is an understatement. I could always use more days in September!
But, alas. Here we are now in mid-October. All of the fall fun is definitely something to look forward to. The weather is finally starting to cool off and we’ve got pumpkin patches and spooky movies and all sorts of excitement to fill the month which we've started already.

10 Things That Happened in September
I started baking. This September for some reason I wasted no time in heating up the oven. Not sure what the drive was but every fall season is different for me, it's either pumpkin everything, cinnamon everything, or in this season's case it's apple everything. I've been baking non-stop since September. If you look back at my blog's recent's posts you'll find some pretty delicious recipes. Aside from those I even baked some apple cider donuts from HalfBakedHarvest.
I made a fall bucket list. Normally I make a big ol’ list for the entire family but this year I wanted to focus on myself. So, I sat down and made a list of all of the things that give me fall feelings and make me happy. It’s been fun to slowly start working on it and really focus on myself. Of course, some of it is family-focused, too! It has big stuff like going to the pumpkin patch and small stuff like an outdoor movie date night (’which we did this past weekend) and we watched none other than HP The Chamber of Secrets, one of my favorite HP movies.
We went to our state fair in SLC. My husband is a trooper because he doesn't care for fair's or carnival's but I love that he's willing to indulge me. Besides it was our first time attending the Utah State Fair and I really wanted to get a feel for it, it was fun but not something we feel the need to do every year.
I did some fall (Halloween) crafts. Besides baking, I’ve been feeling extra crafty lately and I’ve been really loving creating some fall aka Halloween decor for our home. I have a couple crafts coming up that I haven’t shared with you yet. But the goal is to share them later this week on the blog. Super easy and you might not even need to spend anything to make them.
I turned 45! My birthday is in mid-September, and this one was particularly sweet. And all I wanted was cake of course but to also go antiquing finally outside of our norm and my husband was the cheauffer for the day. We also grabbed lunch near Park City and called it a day. Like I said, it was sweet. Just how I wanted to come into my 45th.
We started planning a backyard update! Okay, it's not very exciting but since we can't buy a whole new fence yet and replace the wooden worn looking one that we currently have, we're just going to strip or sand off the paint that currently chipping and give it a new paint job. Hopefully that will hold off for another year and allow us some time to save up for a whole new fence to go in eventually.
We started watching all the Fall movies! Okay, I started watching all the scary, suspenseful and fall movies. Truth is its my favorite way to enjoy the short fall season, I try and cram it all in because come Nov 1st it's all about Christmas, isn't it? But truth be told, there's nothing like watching You've Got Mail repeatedly in the Fall, but who am I kidding I love all the Nancy Meyers movies all year round if I'm being completely honest.
I got back to reading. And boy did I miss it. Finding the time and energy is really the hard part. I really enjoy reading and if I could read a book every two weeks that would just be ideal but it's not my reality unfortunately. You'd think not having littles in our home anymore would allow me more time for things as simple as reading but I feel like I'm busier now or simply just find more things to keep me busy. But I'm making reading a priority again and especially this time of year, it's my favorite thing to do.
Speaking of, I started to slow down. The pace of fall is one of the reasons I love it so much. As we approach the holiday season I always find myself slowing down and appreciating small moments more. I take a second to soak up watching my grandson play and learn while he's here. I pause to take photos of the fall sunrises and sunsets if possible and even the changing leaves. I set my phone down and close my eyes to take a big whiff of my favorite fall candle with the windows open. I wish I could be more consistent about this all year long, but it’s something I really excel at this time of year. And I love it.
I hope that you too are slowing down and finding ways to enjoy more of the small things and moments. I also hope that September was just as good to you or/if not more fun and exciting. Either way I'm already loving what October has been offering and the Fall things that we've had a chance to squeese in. But nothing beats the weather we've been having, though it's been slightly warmer than normal, it's still been in the high 70's for us with those cool fall breezes and I am not complaning. Normally we're on the verge or already having snow on the ground in our mountains but it's coming, by the end of this third week of October temps are finally dropping.
